CPHQ Course in the UAE

Testing from the UAE makes you an international candidate. NAHQ's 2026 windows are 3–24 February, 4–25 May, 3–24 August and 2–23 November, with application deadlines on 31 January, 30 April, 31 July and 31 October.

Miss one and you wait roughly three months. With a ten-week course in front of the exam, the planning is simple but unforgiving: choose your window, count back to the application deadline, then count back ten more weeks. That is your start date.

The paper is 140 questions in three hours — 125 scored, 15 unscored. PSI runs it, either at a test centre or online with a live remote proctor. Remote is the popular choice here for the obvious reason. Before committing, read how the exam is weighted: Performance and Process Improvement plus Health Data Analytics make up over 40% of it, which is not where most candidates expect the weight to sit.

The UAE is regulated by emirate, and that shapes what a quality role looks like depending on where you work. The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi runs its own hospital accreditation programme, with standards developed specifically for hospitals in the emirate and accredited internationally by ISQua; those standards are reviewed annually and formally every three years. Dubai's health authority regulates separately, and the private sector across both emirates leans heavily on international accreditation, JCI in particular.

For someone building a quality career here, that fragmentation is the point. You are unlikely to spend a whole career inside one framework. What transfers between them is not knowledge of a particular standards manual — it is the underlying methodology: how to build a measurement plan, how to run an improvement cycle, how to analyse and present quality data credibly. That is what CPHQ certifies, and it is why the credential travels across emirates and across employers in a way that familiarity with one standards set does not.

NAHQ sets no formal eligibility requirement. No degree gate, no minimum years, no panel. The published recommendation is around two years of experience in healthcare quality — a recommendation, not a rule.

In the UAE the candidates who do well are typically:

• Quality and patient safety officers in private hospital groups who need a credential to match the role
• Clinicians moving sideways into quality after committee work
• Accreditation coordinators running JCI or DOH cycles
• Recent arrivals who held quality roles elsewhere and want a credential recognised across employers here

The preparation course: $450. Ten weeks, live sessions, recordings, 500+ practice questions and a full mock exam. The NAHQ exam fee, paid directly to NAHQ. International rates: $799 non-member, $559 standard member, $400 premium member. Membership costs less than the gap between the non-member and member rates, so joining first is usually the cheaper route. Check it before you apply.

Plan both together. The commonest budgeting error is treating the exam fee as a later problem, then missing an application deadline while sorting it out. The exam is applied rather than theoretical, and candidates without hands-on improvement experience feel it in the analytics domains — eligibility, honestly sets out when we advise people to wait.

Ten weeks, one live Zoom session a week, timed for UAE evenings. Bilingual delivery — technical vocabulary in English, because that is the language of the exam and of your documentation, with explanation in Arabic wherever it helps. All sessions recorded, which matters if you are rostered.

The syllabus mirrors NAHQ's published content outline proportionally, so time is allocated by exam weight rather than by what is convenient to teach. You finish with a full-length timed mock under real conditions, which is where most candidates learn that their actual weakness is pacing.
